My Next Passive Income Idea with Canva
Here’s how To Make Passive Income This Christmas
It’s the holiday season, with Christmas and Halloween just around the corner.
How about we make money from these holidays.
I don’t know about you but count me in.
Now, there’s something special about the holiday season.
Whether it’s people buying gifts for their loved ones or just costumes to wear, the holiday season is more or less, a buying season.
Well, I have a plan.
A plan you guys can copy and it’s going to be my next Canva Side Hustle.
In the story, I’ll be outlining every single detail about it.
So What Exactly Is This New Side Hustle?
We all know Q4 is when people shop the most.
So, why not be one of the businesses that cash in on this holiday season?
If it’s not clear already, we’ll be launching a clothing brand exclusively for Q4.
And just so you know, I’m far from being a professional graphic designer, and you don’t need to be one either.
As always, this side hustle won’t cost a dime, from beginning to end.
Step 1: Find profitable clothing ideas to recreate
Just to make it clear, our clothing brand will focus on funny quotes related to Christmas and Halloween.
The question is, how do we find these quotes?
That’s where we have Pinterest to help.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who checks out Pinterest when I’m thinking about buying something special.
But today, we’re going to be logging in to figure out what products to sell as designs in your store.
So I started my product research by typing in “Christmas t-shirts” on the Pinterest search bar to see what would pop up.
Another keyword variation you could use to start your keyword research is “Christmas t-shirt for”

With all of these ideas, we’ll be able to create an endless catalog of Christmas clothing to make money this Q4.
So type in your umbrella keyword on Pinterest and keep scrolling till you find a quote or design idea you like.

After a few seconds of scrolling, I landed on this quote “i’m so good santa came twice” & it really made me laugh.
If you keep searching on Pinterest with the keyword variations I provided, you’ll find loads of cool ideas to try for your clothing brand.
But how do we know it’s a profitable idea?
For this, go back to the search bar on Pinterest and type in the keyword you just found.
If Pinterest suggests it, it’s in demand. If Pinterest doesn’t suggest it, that’s fine, just move on to the next keyword.
So I typed in my Product idea into the Pinterest search bar, and thankfully Pinterest suggested it.

Step 2: Recreate the T-shirt Design with Canva
Once you’ve picked your product idea, take a look at what others in your niche have created.
I did just that, and here’s what we should be looking at recreating.

And no, this isn’t plagiarism.
As you’ll soon find out, our end design will be completely unique, so there won’t be any copyright issues.
To get started with your design, just hop on over to Canva and look for a template that’s similar to our inspiration.

I found this template, now watch how I’m going to make it unique and perfect for our own shop.
Design Tip 1: Create a similar clipart with the help of AI
Today, we won’t be using Midjourney or Leonardo.ai to generate our AI images.
Instead, we’ll be using Adobe Firefly.
- It’s free
- And works better for clipart & sublimation.
So create your free Adobe Firefly account and using a simple prompt like this
Cute Santa Claus watercolor sublimation.
You can create super cute clipart like these

You can always add more words to the prompt, to make your clipart look a certain way or do something in particular.
Now, these AI images come in a white background, so we’ll need to make our clipart transparent.
For this, head over to Adobe’s Free background remover and upload your AI image.
After a few seconds, I was able to download my AI clipart in a transparent background.

Now, upload your clipart on to Canva & start designing
- Change the fonts
- Change the place holder text
- Change the color theme.
And viola, this was the design I ended up creating in less than 10 minutes.

This is what I call recreating without copying.
Again, use Adobe’s free tool to remove the background from your design, making it see-through and suitable for any t-shirt color.
Next, How Do You Make Money from your Designs?
Let’s figure out how we can make money from these Canva designs together.
As I really need you guys to see how much potential there is in this side hustle.
For this, I have a question.
When you need to buy a new hoodie or dress where do you look to find it?
Well, on average people go to these 2 places
- And Pinterest
So let’s start with Google, when I search for our t-shirt title on Google, here’s what pops up.

First, let’s talk about Etsy. You can open up your own little Etsy shop and list your items there.
Etsy is a hotspot with over 454.2 million buyers looking to buy your creative designs.

The best part is, these listings can also pop up on Google searches.
That’s double traffic for just one listing.
I also found Zazzle on our Google search

Zazzle isn’t as competitive as Etsy, but it still draws a lot of visitors.
And aside from its Google traffic, Zazzle gets over 14.1 Million visitors every single month.

Now, those are two marketplaces you could be selling on to make money with your clothing brand.
But I’m not stopping. Here’s how you can make even more money with your Canva t-shirt designs.
Remember how we used Pinterest for our product research, well let’s reverse engineer our research.
Since we know people come to Pinterest when planning for a purchase, why can’t we become the products they find on Pinterest.
Doubting the potential?
Here’s a business owner on Pinterest who gets around 10 million views every month!

Moreover, Pinterest gets an impressive audience of more than 1 billion monthly visitors, a significant portion of whom are potential buyers.

This means that, alongside your Etsy and Zazzle stores, you can create a third store using a Free T-shirt store builder like Teespring and promote it effectively on Pinterest.
With this, a single design can turn into 3 different income streams.
But how about I wrap up this story with one more way to make money from your Canva designs?
Now, Instead of selling your Designs as physical products, you can bundle them up and sell them as digital products on Creative Fabrica.
Creative Fabrica is a marketplace for designers and creatives seeking design assets and templates.
With approximately 8.7 million monthly visitors, their marketplace is a thriving hub for the creative community.

Now, there are two ways to go about selling your designs on Creative Fabrica
- Sell your design elements as a clipart bundle
- Sell your t-shirt template as a sublimation.
I personally do both with my shop on Creative Fabrica.
And I’ve seen viral bundles of t-shirt sublimation templates that are editable in Canva.

Either way, you can turn your t-shirt design into a template or bundle that you sell on Canva.
How Much Can You Make With This Side Hustle?
First, let’s look at my personal stats.
I sell my templates and AI-generated images on Creative Fabrica, and up to this point, I’ve made $401.09 from them.

For Zazzle, I found a seller who makes over $7,047 from their store on Zazzle.

As for Pinterest, I’ve been using it to promote my Gumroad store, and I’ve made $934.48 so far.

So I know for sure that Pinterest is a very profitable traffic source.
I really hope this story will be of great help as you begin your t-shirt business with Canva.
Remember I’m here to root for you all the way!
Meanwhile, Canva templates on Creative Fabrica & Gumroad are just one of the many passive income businesses I’ve built using Canva.
I’ve documented my entire journey in my eBook: The Canva Hustle.
